Multiple deceased people can be prayed for at a single Mass, even if the intention for the particular Mass is not for the deceased. It is good for people to bring their own intentions for Holy Mass that can be offered up in the silence of their hearts.
The best and most efficacious way to help souls to be released from Purgatory is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! The greatest gift the Catholic Church possesses is the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist.
